Overview:PuppyLove is an app that allows pet owners to find nearby compatible playmates for their dogs.

Empathize
The Problem

Dog owners need to find safe and reliable playmates for their dogs because it helps to improve their behaviour and health.

Research

We conducted a 16 question survey through a Google form and received 8 responses. On a scale from 1-5 (1: Less Important and 5: Very Important).

37.5% voted 5 and 37.5% voted 4 saying that socializing their dog is very important.

We also asked if the dog owners go to dog parks and 85.7% said no.

Wireframing

My team and I sketched out rough paper wireframes and then voted on which members' screens we wanted to keep using moving forward. We then moved these images into InDesign to develop them into a clickable paper prototype.

Guerilla Usability Testing

We conducted 2 rounds one with the lo-fi digital prototype and the second one with a higher fidelity prototype that included changes and interactions we added based on feedback of the first round of testing.

We conducted usability testing with 5 users to improve Puppy Love App usability. Our tasks were:

Task One

Create a profile for dog and dog owner

Task Two

Match with a dog

Task Three

Message with a matched dog

Results

1. Some users didn’t know what swipe left and right meant. So, it’s necessary to add tutorial screen before start the app.

2. After matching with the other dogs they weren’t sure if they completed the task.

3. Prototyping had some connection errors.

Iterations

1. Easy tutorial at home screen providing information beforehand.

2. Increased visibility of actions adding “Match” and “Nope” while the user is swiping.

3. We added a new button so the user could see the dog profile before matching.

Final Thoughts and Future Iterations
  • Expand to include more animals
  • Implementing an “undo” action
  • Include a scroll bar
  • In-app notifications
  • “Super Like” function
  • Making sure all interactions work properly
  • Making the buttons more visible
  • Expanding on the descriptive traits in Profile page

More usability testing, and more user research to guide future developments
